These vegetables include yams, beets, carrots, squash, corn, peas, collard/ radicchio, dandelion greens, turnip tops, mustard greens, chicory. With chicory and dandelion, ensure you get them from the market or ensure they may not be exposed to herbicides and pesticides. The list of vegetables is very long. You should take note of the few that are harmful and be open to all the other. Make sure the vegetables are fresh when feeding your turtles and let them enjoy their meal.

Well, yes, water turtles can have lettuce. Leafy greens are good for turtles. You should, however, keep in mind that iceberg lettuce should not be an option when choosing leafy greens. Try other greens like the green leaf, red leaf, and romaine lettuce. Although these are good for turtles, they cannot guarantee the health of your turtle. With diet, variety is king. You get more nutrients when you try out more kinds of foods.

For the turtles, you can try other kinds of vegetables such as turnip greens, parsley, kales, collard greens, spinach once in a while and many more. You can also try different categories of foods such as protein-rich foods. Turtles will also enjoy mealworms, crickets, fish, pork, and chicken. Foods such as dairy products are harmful to turtles. These include milk, yogurt, cheese, butter, and so on. Turtles cannot breakdown dairy products. They are lactose intolerant.

For this reason, keep them away. Foods that are processed are also harmful to turtles. These can include canned foods, beef products like sausages and smokies, foods with preservatives and even salty foods. There are also luxury foods that humans take like chocolates and candies. They are not harmful but they also add no value to a turtles’ body when consumed.

You should keep them away. You should also try to avoid spinach and cabbages which contain oxalic acids. The amount of oxalic acid in them is not that much but you should try to keep them away. You can give your turtle spinach once in a while.

Other than those factors, you should also consider the type of lettuce you want to offer your turtle. Some such as the Iceberg lettuce is not suitable for turtles. It adds no nutritional value to the turtle and causes diarrhea if much is consumed. You should not even consider giving it to the turtle.

Other than that, you can feed lettuce to your turtle every day. There will be no harm in that. About the size of the lettuce, you can try a piece that is about the same as their body. Turtles will eat as much as they can and for this reason, you need to control their eating to avoid overfeeding.
